The Basics

What Is Gynecology Surgery?

For certain conditions that prevent pregnancy, gynecologic surgery can be the most effective option. Many patients with painful conditions or uterine abnormalities benefit from reproductive surgery. At Care Fertility Centre, we offer minimally invasive procedures such as hysteroscopy at our Ontario clinics. Our goal is to provide the least invasive treatments possible, using advanced technology to perform delicate surgeries. Most procedures take less than an hour, helping you recover quickly and get back to your fertility journey.

What Does Gynecological Surgery Treat?

Depending on other contributing factors, gynecologic surgery may be recommended to boost your chances of a successful pregnancy. This type of surgery typically addresses conditions such as:

  • Endometriosis

  • Ovarian cysts

  • Pelvic and/or intrauterine adhesions

  • Uterine fibroids

  • Endometrial polyps

  • Fallopian tube disease and obstruction

  • Scar tissue

  • Ectopic pregnancy

  • Congenital anomalies of the pelvic organs

These procedures can correct underlying issues and help optimize fertility outcomes.

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the abdominal and reproductive organs, ideal for treating conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts, scar tissue, fibroids, blocked fallopian tubes, and ectopic pregnancies. During the procedure, a small tube with a camera is inserted through a 5-12 mm incision in the abdomen, allowing our fertility specialists to view the pelvic organs without major surgery. Laparoscopy helps identify blockages in the fallopian tubes or other abnormalities affecting fertility, and tissue samples can also be collected during the procedure.

It is used to treat:

  • Endometriosis

  • Ovarian cysts

  • Fibroids

  • Ectopic pregnancy

  • Blocked or damaged Fallopian tubes

  • Correction of scar tissue

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no incisions, allowing most women to resume normal activities immediately afterward. It is commonly used to treat polyps, fibroids, scar tissue, heavy uterine bleeding, and uterine septum issues. During the procedure, a small tube is inserted to examine the inside of the uterus and cervical canal. Our fertility specialists can also remove fibroids, polyps, and scar tissue from the uterine cavity through the hysteroscope.
